WOULD YOU PAY $50,000 TO MEET THE NEXT PRESIDENT?
Every year, the people behind the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial auction
off a bunch of pretty cool stuff for people with a ridiculous amount
of disposable income.
--Here are the ten best things you can bid on before the auction
closes on Wednesday (May 7th) and their current bids:
#10.) For $37,000, you can share a scene with JOHNNY DEPP in the
upcoming movie "Public Enemies" as a 'featured extra'
. . . which means you don't have any lines.
#9.) You can get a private, one-hour tennis lesson with ANDRE AGASSI
for $75,000.
#8.) $18,500 gets you tea at the Four Seasons with ALAN GREENSPAN
. . . the former Chairman of the Federal Reserve.
#7.) Or, you can meet OPRAH after sitting in the VIP section during
the taping of her show . . . for $14,500.
#6.) $2,050 is how much it'll cost to meet up with BARBARA WALTERS
after a taping of "The View". (--Unfortunately, that might
also involve meeting ELISABETH HASSELBECK.)
#5.) Also for $2,050, you can meet OWEN WILSON at the L.A. premiere
of his new movie "Marley And Me".
#4.) One of the cheapest things you can bid on is a meeting with
DIANE SAWYER during a visit to the set of "Good Morning America".
Bidding is only at $1,350.
#3.) You can have dinner for five in the private wine cellar of
STEVE FORBES' New York townhouse for $3,750.
#2.) $850 will get you the dress SHARON STONE wore to the premiere
of "Basic Instinct" in 1992 (--back when she was still
hot).
#1.) And how'd you like to be in Washington for the inauguration
of our next president? You get VIP sitting during the ceremony .
. . go to a bunch of balls and functions . . . and you get to meet
the next president . . . all for only $50,000.
(--You can bid here . . .)

| EARTH DAY AND YOUR OLD CELL PHONE -- SOMETHING YOU CAN
DO |
You probably use a cell phone, and statistics show you also have about
3.5 "retired" cell phones sitting around in a drawer at
home, or at your office. The cell phone has become the most widespread
consumer electronics device ever produced, and the mountain of old
cell phones, which contain a variety of toxic heavy metals, is growing
at a rate that is staggering. Here it is by the numbers:
The U.S. has more than 257 million cell phone users.
That is approximately 83% of the total population.
Each cell phone user replaces his cell phone approximately every
18 months.
That adds another 155+ million cell phone devices per year.
And all of this creates a backlog of cell phones poised to enter
landfills that's about 1 billion strong.
That's enough cell phones to circle the earth more than 2.5 times.
It's also more than enough toxic material to poison our air, water
and landfills for centuries. But there is a way to prevent this
through organizations like CollectiveGood which is the nation's
premier cell phone recycler, developing programs in partnership
with charities, companies, government, schools, individuals, manufacturers
and carriers.
With every cell phone recycled, 17 metals are reclaimed and refined
to 99.99% pure, including:
Gold
Silver
Platinum
Lead
Cadmium
Mercury
Copper
When these metals are reused, it prevents the creation of an
additional 6,545 pounds of toxic mining waste per phone recycled.
Put another way, the mining for the metals for that phone in your
back pocket created a pile of toxic mining waste larger than a minivan!
Recycling your phone prevents that waste.
There is also a program called GreenPhone which pays consumers to
recycle their old cell phones and plants a tree for every mobile
phone purchased. GreenPhone pays consumers between $5 and $75 for
every cell phone purchased, and will recycle any and all cell phones
and their related accessories.

CASTING CALL!!!
Casting calls for ABC's new reality series Disney's "High
School Musical: Summer Session" (working title) are being held
in your area!
WEST COAST
Sunday, April 27
Long Beach Arena
Long Beach, CA
The date and location for the west coast open casting call for the
new reality series, Disney's "High School Musical: Summer Session,"
will be Sunday, April 27 at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach,
California. Anyone between the ages of 16 and 22 is welcome to give
it a shot at the open calls (if you are under 18, you must bring
your parent or legal guardian) and can download an application and
view eligibility requirements at
www.abc.com/hsmsummersession
The series debuts on the ABC Television Network on Sunday, July
20 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) and runs Sundays and Mondays (8:00-9:00
p.m., ET) for three weeks, then continues Mondays at 8:00 p.m.,
ET through mid-September. The producers welcome anyone and everyone
aged 16-22 who has dreamed of being center stage -- the high school
quarterback who's never tried out for a play but has a song in his
heart, the drama club extrovert looking to break into the big time,
someone looking to trade the chess club routine for a dance routine
-- all are invited to try to "Get'cha head in the game,"
as the hit song says. The finalists will ultimately participate
in a summer music program to hone their skills, and one talented
newcomer will receive the opportunity of a lifetime, becoming a
part of the "High School Musical" family. The winner will
receive a grand prize-details will be announced separately. Lots
of fantastic surprises await someone with the talent to go to the
head of the class!
The casting scouts from "High School Musical: Summer Session"
are scouring the country looking for otherwise unknown talent who
they think deserve a chance to try out for this new reality series.
The casting scouts will select some of these individuals to be brought
to the final auditions, before a panel of judges, which will be
held as the final phases of the open calls. If you are selected
to audition, bring your A-game for a chance to appear before our
judges and show them why you deserve to join the "High School
Musical" family.

| 10 New Uses for Coffee
Filters |
1. Diffuse the flash on a camera. When youre
taking a close-up,
soften the brightness by placing a coffee filter over the flash.
2. Strain wine from a bottle with a broken cork.
Place the filter over a pitcher or a carafe and slowly pour the
wine into it.
3. Serve popcorn or other snacks.
The filters act as disposable bowls, so theres no dishwashing.
4. Make yogurt dip.
Use a rubber band to secure a paper coffee filter over the mouth
of a deep cup or jar.
Slowly pour 8 ounces of plain yogurt onto the filter. Let drain
for one hour.
In a bowl, mix the thickened yogurt with 1 small minced garlic clove,
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, and salt and pepper to taste.
Serve with crackers.
5. Heat up leftovers in the microwave.
Use a filter as the protective covering over a bowl or a plate.
6. Prevent soil from draining out of flowerpots.
When repotting, place a filter at the bottom, over the drainage
hole, then add the soil.
7. Prevent scuffs and scratches on fine china.
Use flattened coffee filters as spacers when you stack your dishes.
8. Protect hands from Popsicle drippage.
Slide the wooden stick of an ice pop through a coffee filter so
your hands stay mess-free.
9. Serve pita sandwiches.
A circular filter is the perfect size for carrying a sandwich on
the go.
10. Clean windows and glass when youre out of paper towels.
Coffee filters leave no lint or other residue.

CREATIVE WAYS TO RE-USE & RECYCLE HOUSEHOLD STUFF
"At the end of the week, I make 'refrigerator' soup with
anything leftover or veggies that are not so fresh. I have had some
good combos, too!"
"My kids drink milk in sippy cups. Instead of throwing any
of it down the drain, I use the rest in my coffee or tea. (My husband
thinks this is gross, but it doesn't bother me.)"
"I had an avocado that was overripe-instead of throwing it
out, I ate the best part and made a facial mask with the rest. I
mixed in a little honey to help with blackheads."
"Here in the South we reuse a lot of things, especially for
gardening and composting. Did you know you can take a banana peel,
chop it up, dig a hole around your rose bushes (cover it back up
well), and it
fertilizes the bush? Eggshells, too. I even save eggshells and clean
them out, bake them in the oven for 15 minutes at 350, and feed
this crushed back to birds and chickens. It's a great source of
calcium for them."
"I hardly get plastic bags anymore. We used to use them to
dispose of dirty diapers, but one day my husband said, 'We can't
do this anymore. Not only are we sending diapers to the landfill,
but look at all
the bags we're sending.' If we do get plastic bags, we take them
to our local grocery store to recycle. I do keep a few on hand ...
if I need to return something borrowed or send something to Goodwill."
"Nearly dried-out markers can be dipped in cool water and used
like paint brushes for fun kid craft projects. Egg cartons also
make fun kid toys and craft projects. They also go back to my friend,
who
provides us with free-range eggs."
"Veggie scraps get turned into broth before composting. I wash
and reuse plastic silverware and plates, cups and baggies; compost
dryer lint; use the plastic inside cereal boxes to roll out cookies,
etc.; reuse bread bags as food storage bags; pack lunches for the
kids in reusable containers (e.g. yogurt)... [We also] Freecycle
all sorts of things -- it's AMAZING what folks want!"
"Rather than throw away plastic bread bags or other thin bags
from food, I try to get another use out of them before disposing
of them. I use them for a green beauty treatment. I rub olive oil
on my feet, put a clean plastic bread bag on each, and then [put
on] socks. I leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes and have softer, moisturized
skin."

A POPULAR GIFT FOR DOGS IN NEW ZEALAND IS A CD ONLY DOGS CAN HEAR:
The number one song in New Zealand last Christmas was a song called
"A Very Silent Night". It was #1 despite the fact that
humans can't actually hear it . . . it can only be heard by dogs.
--The song was recorded at a frequency that's too high for humans
to hear. To us, it sounds like nothing. But dogs can easily hear
it.
--Most dogs seem to like the sound . . . but there was one report
of a dog that go so worked up when it heard the CD, it attacked
the CD player.
--Dog owners in New Zealand bought 4,400 copies of "A Very
Silent Night" for their dogs for Christmas. The CD has made
$17,300 . . . and all the proceeds go to a charity set up by the
Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
--Now that charity wants to market the song worldwide to raise
more money for abused animals. If you want to buy your dog a copy,
go here: http://www.spca.org.nz/silent.htm

WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS..........
A MOM INVENTS A TOY RENTAL SERVICE . . . SORT OF LIKE THE NETFLIX
FOR TOYS:
Kids pretty much have the attention span of a goldfish, which is
very frustrating to parents who shell out a ton of money on toys
. . . only to have their kid lose interest in them the next day.
--That's why Lori Pope of Houston, Texas, invented a toy rental
service. The company is called Baby Plays and it's basically like
Netflix . . . but instead of renting videos, you rent toys.
--Here's how it works: For around thirty bucks a month, you choose
six toys to be mailed to you, out of a selection of around 200 toys.
--When your kid loses interest in them (--like five minutes later),
you just send the toys back and get new ones in the mail.
--Lori says she cleans and sanitizes the toys when they return.
(--You may think the idea of your kid sharing toys with other random,
germy babies is gross, but what do you think happens when you drop
them off at pre-school or daycare? Same deal, isn't it?)
(--Here's the site if you want to check it out . . .)

It's called the WINE RACK . . . and it's basically a bra that you

cool to be getting drunk.

is able to hold an entire bottle of wine. It also has a hose and nozzle
which ladies can discreetly sip from when no one is looking.
--And to make a good thing even better, the wine rack serves the double
purpose of increasing the wearer's chest size by up to TWO FULL cup
sizes.
--The only catch is that the more you drink, the smaller your chest
gets.

CELEBRITY TIPPERS -- SAINTS AND SINNERS!
The dirt on who are big tippers at restaurants -- and who are
cheapskates...
Saints...
Tom Hanks: Tom usually tips 50% of his bill -- AND he makes a point
of chatting up his regular waiters by name.
Matthew McConaughey: "Matthew is a very generous tipper --
as long as you're a cute waitress!" a Hollywood insider told
Star. He likes to flirt, and if you're cute, you'll get way more
than 20%."
Nicole Richie: She's super-friendly and always leaves an excellent
tip.
Tom Cruise: "Tom always carries thousands of dollars in hundred
dollar bills, just to tip!" says an insider. He often throws
down several hundred dollar bills as a generous tip.
Lindsay Lohan: The people who valet her car at her L.A. condo love
Lindsay because she gives them $5 each time and she also makes sure
to give the valet food and sweet treats to keep her in their good
graces.
Patrick Dempsey: He often leaves tips equal to his total bill at
an L.A. diner he usually frequents ... "He wants everyone to
swoon over him!" says a source. "And he's a regular, so
he likes to keep them happy."
Sinners...
Luke Wilson: An insider at an L.A. sushi joint Luke goes to often
says he is a stingy tipper -- when he bothers to leave a tip at
all!
Nicole Kidman: "When Nicole was at a sushi dinner with a movie
executive, she was ice cold to the staff and would not even acknowledge
her waitress!" says a Hollywood insider. "And when she
picked up the tab, she gave a mere 10%."
Eddie Murphy: "When Eddie Murphy goes out to eat," says
a Hollywood insider, "not only doesn't he want to tip, he doesn't
even want to pay for his meal. He feels like he should get everything
for free."
Paris Hilton: Not only is she snooty to those who serve her, but
she's a lousy tipper -- and always has been -- even before her grandfather
announced he's giving 97% of his fortune to charity.
Eva Longoria: Eva goes to an L.A. car wash to get her car cleaned,
and a source says: "She does not tip well -- only gives $2
to the guys that dry her car. Cheap!"
